Nintendo Files Lawsuit Against DS Piracy Firms

Nintendo has filed a lawsuit against five Japanese companies for importing and selling portable DS piracy equipment.
Nintendo filed the lawsuit at the Tokyo District Court against five firms that are selling R4 cards which enable gamers to play illegal programs on the DS portable video game unit.

Nintendo Co Ltd said on Tuesday it had filed a lawsuit against five Japanese firms for importing and selling R4 equipment cards that enables illegal game programs to be played on the popular DS handheld video game console.
The lawsuit was filed at the Tokyo District Court along with 54 other software makers.
Reuters is reporting that the lawsuit against the 5 Japanese firms is for “importing and selling equipment that enables illegal game programs to be played on Nintendo’s popular DS portable video game player.”
R4 cards allow gamers to circumnavigate the DS’ in-built copy protection system. The devices have received much criticism in the UK over the past few weeks, with retailers calling for a total retail ban on R4 cards.
